How we Handle Projects
– Phase #2 –
Initial Concept Design Effort.
Upon having concluded Phase #1 such that we are now confident that we know everything there is
to know about the property, we are ready to embark upon this, crucially important, second phase of the project the objectives of which
are;
● to help our client clearly envision and translate his "dream" into a specific,
concrete, coherent, and cohesive set (or series) of overall design criteria for his
future home and/or garden;
● to help him chose the home's architectural style, its size, its general layout
(floor plan), its materials, its interior and exterior decorative schemes, and the
"ambience", etc., with which he can identify;
● to help him arrive at, essentially, the same results vis-à-vis the garden of his
dreams;
● to help him do all this within the context of what the site, the "laws of Civil/Structural
Engineering", and his pocketbook will allow;
● to lay the groundwork for and to enter into a final, formal agreement with the client
regarding the conduct of, and the estimated fees, costs, and expenses
associated with, Phases #3, #4, and #5, following.
Commonly, Phase #2 is split into two task areas as follows;
Task A:
The process of creating and developing the governing design concepts and criteria for the home and the garden (discussed above) will be performed
in concert with the client during one, or a consecutive series of intensive,
"Concept Design-Brainstorming Sessions" (Charrettes) which will not be terminated by us until the
client indicates that he/she is totally satisfied with ALL of their results! To get an idea of the
issues and areas we'll be discussing during our Charrettes, please go to our
Home-
and
Garden-
"Initial Concept Design Questionnaires."
(To make sure that we will have a highly productive meeting, we usually request that our client prints those pages out and mails them to
us – along with his/her handwritten answers, of course – a week, or so, prior to the scheduled date of our Charrette!)
Task B:
Subsequent preparation of ...
1: "Initial Concept Drawings/Sketches – Home"
2: "Initial Concept Drawings/Sketches – Garden", and
3: "Initial Overall Project Scope & Cost Criteria", based on the results of Task A
above.
